A documentary family session is about capturing your family’s authentic moments without any posing or staging. It focuses on the genuine interactions and everyday activities that define your family’s unique story. There’s no need for special outfits or perfect settings; it’s all about you being yourselves.

Your home doesn’t need to look like a magazine spread. The goal is to capture the love and connection within your family, not the aesthetics of your living space. The realness of your environment adds depth and authenticity to your photographs.

I’ll help you answer this question in our design consultation, and I’ll also say that the best moments often come from your regular daily routines, whether it’s making breakfast together, playing in the backyard, or reading bedtime stories.

Children are naturally energetic and unpredictable, which is perfectly okay. I embrace these moments and capture the true essence of your family life. There’s no pressure for anyone to behave a certain way; the aim is to document your family authentically.

Not at all. My focus is on capturing your family as you are—natural, authentic, and full of connection. There’s no need to perform or pose; the beauty is in the real moments you share.

Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and reflects your family’s personality. There’s no need for matching outfits or formal attire unless that’s your style. The goal is to capture you as you are in your everyday life.

Sessions typically last between 2-4 hours, with the start time depending on your family’s schedule and the moments we aim to capture. The pace is relaxed to ensure everyone feels at ease and not rushed.

After the session, I carefully curate and edit the photographs to highlight the most meaningful moments. We’ll then have a viewing/ordering session where you can begin to see your photographs come to life as art for your home.

Investment and Process
DAY IN THE LIFE SESSIONS
The alternative to the family portrait
Embrace unscripted moments and capture your family’s memories authentically with a Day in the Life session. I'll seamlessly integrate myself into your daily routine, documenting both the planned moments and the beautiful surprises that unfold.
Documentary Sessions take time: you get to choose either the morning (9am - 1pm) OR the evening (4pm - 8pm).
Alison Lapczuk Photography pricing is similar to a traditional portrait studio. There is a non-refundable Sitting Fee of $600 + tax that secures your date for your documentary family photography session and allows the shoot planning process to begin. That fee includes the following:

❤️ A relaxed, in-home session capturing genuine, unscripted moments
❤️ Fully guided Design Consultation
Please note that digital and printed products are purchased separately at your Design Consultation appointment.
About 2-4 weeks after your shoot, we will meet again Design Consultation Session. This is when you will see all your photographs for purchase, and choose your Collection!
If you would like more info we can schedule a consult at the link below! Just to give you an idea people usually spend anywhere from $3000 - $9000 or more, depending on what products they choose to purchase.

Spend quality time as a family in the comfort of your home and/or favourite places, while I take care of the photographs. There’s no posing - just be yourselves. It’s all about your real life - be present, enjoy the ups and downs, knowing that this stage of your life will become a family heirloom.

Thanks to Steps 1 & 2, this part will be easy! This is when you get to view your family photographs for the first time and we will fit them into the book and/or wall gallery that we planned for at your Design Consultation. This is a fully guided experience where you get to make your final ordering decisions and all of all the design work is done for you!

The best part! Your heirloom album and/or your custom wall art will be ready to brighten your home for years to come!
